Hemp Bedding

Bedding is an integral part of keeping your pets safe and happy. Some pet owners often underestimate the benefits of quality animal bedding they put in their enclosures which allows your pet to create an ideal cozy environment for themselves. Lining cages or enclosure with quality bedding could be one of the best things you can do for your beloved pets. Inferior bedding might cause your pets to experience respiratory issues, allergies, odours or simply a pain to clean.

It is crucial to choose a bedding that is non-toxic and safe as some of our furry friends tend to chew at the bedding and whilst unintentional, they might accidentally consume and ingest some of it. Some hamsters tend to store bedding in their cheek pouches to make their nest at their preferred spot, some beddings might cut their cheek pouches which causes an inflammation, cause choking or intestinal blockage which can slowly kill your pet.

What is hemp?

Hemp Plant

Hemp is one of the fastest growing and versatile plants used for a variety of reasons since ancient times. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items such as insulation, paper, textiles, ropes, food, just to name a few and now – animal bedding. Hemp-based products can be recycled, reused, and are biodegradable making it environmentally friendly.

It is especially easy to grow and durable plant due to a natural inbuilt pesticide thus there is no need to rely on artificial insect repellents or synthetic fertilizers.

How is Hemp Bedding made?

Hemp Bedding is obtained from the inner fibre of the hemp stem known as the core/stalk/hurd of the cannabis plant, which is mulched down into a kind of straw like texture, which is oh so soft and natural.

Rodents, who particularly like to build their nests and dig tunnels extensively, can live out their building instinct with this.

High Absorbency

We have nothing but love for our fur kids, however sometimes it can be a stomach-churning ordeal to clean their cages be it a guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, chinchilla, chicken, rats or mice. One of the kingpins of a high-quality animal bedding is the absorbency of the material. Hemp Bedding is a hyper absorbent natural product which means you would be able to breathe easier when you clean the cage or enclosure.

Odour Control

Thanks to its neutral odour and superb absorbency. Hemp bedding is nearly odourless, with just the slightest hint of forest soil.

Hemp bedding individual particles does not clump even when they are soaking wet, thanks to its spongy structure and oreada, they lie loosely against each other, producing a continuous circulation that prevents fermentation and the appearance of unpleasant odours; thus hindering rot and fermentation inside the enclosure and stops odours. Hemp Bedding also dries rapidly allowing it to retain odours inside the capillaries of the fibres.

Repels Pests and Parasites

Mites

Hemp bedding is one of the best ways to prevent mites, as mentioned above, it has a natural inbuilt pesticide that repels all kinds of pests such as mites and flies. You still need your regular cleaning though! Such infestation can cause much discomfort and pain to both you and your furry friend.

*Handy Hint*

Adding a few drops of natural pesticides like eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar to your Hemp Bedding will not only help prevent and kill mites, it will also keep your home, cage, coop and enclosure smelling fresh! (Please check if your pets are suitable for this before doing so)

Very Low in Dust

Your pets will breathe easy with Hemp Bedding. It produces much less dust than other common beddings which can be harmful to your pet’s respiratory system. Hemp is one of the most naturally produced animal beddings on the market. Other beddings such as recycled paper or wood bedding may contain phenols which are toxic, and the acids released from these beddings can gradually cause damage to your animals’ respiratory system. Hemp is often grown entirely organically and does not contain toxic components unlike many of the other standard animal bedding alternatives.
